“May it be the light to you in dark places, when other lights go out.” ― Galadriel from Lord of the Rings.

In the ever-growing competitive world of filmmaking, it's easy to find yourself overwhelmed by those who have better equipment or higher skill levels than you. You might ask yourself, "Where do I start? How will I get anywhere?" Chances are, anyone and everyone will give you a different answer, but if I were to put it into three words, it'd be: Just shoot something.

I've learned from others that it takes that single "push" to snowball into the motivation to produce content.

What blocks this "push" is, in some instances, is solitude. As much as you prefer doing things on your own (or conversely, don't), it's human interaction that can lift your spirits and help you grow in ways you never thought you could.

In addition to the push, we sometimes need the spark or “light” from God and the Holy Spirit to create art that lifts people up. We can be the “light in dark places.”

At Filmlings, we are here to bring like-minded teens together to create our own, short films and documentaries, among other genres way may pursue in the future. If you wish to gain experience and pursue a career in film outside of the structured, standard classes that teach basic video production, then this is quite likely the place for you.

As most of you are aware, in film there's a multitude of roles people can play. This is why, in major blockbuster movies, the credits may roll for over twenty minutes long. Some might go the "Jack of all trades but master of none" route by interchangeably experiencing different tasks during the production phase. Others might stick to, say, being the "man in the chair" by operating a switchboard or diving into the endless potential of Adobe Premiere Pro. At the end of the day, everyone has different talents to bring to the table so that they may contribute in sometimes small, but meaningful ways.

My personal favorite aspect of film is the potential to tell stories that leave audiences with something to think about. Not always on a shoestring budget can you convey a grand, thematic message, but you have to start somewhere, right?

Let's start here. At Filmlings.
